Striking Gold In Knoxville

Arby's Restaurant, Knoxville, TN  -  2012

I've been spending quite a bit of time in Knoxville lately while my Mother is in the hospital there (hence the less frequent posts on this blog). Knoxville is a town that I've been around on the interstate dozens of times, but I've never spent much time actually in town looking around. Since my Mother's hospital is near the downtown area, I've had a chance to get oriented and explore a bit in the car, and it looks like a location that I'll definitely have to pencil in for a future photo trip. Lots of interesting older buildings and signs, subjects I'd love to record with my camera!

Speaking of signs, frequent visitors to My Viewfinder know that signs, especially older ones, are one of my favorite subjects. I discovered this Arby's on Chapman Highway that still has one of the old signs. Of course I had to stop to get a photo. Look at the size of that thing! Compare that to an example of one of the newer Arby's signs pictured below. There's not many of these old Arby's signs left, so I'm glad I got to see one and get a photo before they're all gone. I consider it quite a find for my collection of photo signs!

Newer, boring version of Arby's signage

So glad you are preserving the past for us to see.
I agree the new "modern" sleek one isn't as interesting as the old one.

I just love the older Arby's sign. I don't recall ever seeing one in person. It's much more fun!
