Sneaking Through The Alley With Courtney

Piano Skeleton, Asheville, NC  -  2012

Because the weather has been so unusually mild for January, my daughter Courtney and I decided to do a little urban exploration in Asheville. We've covered most of downtown on foot several times before, and seen all the usual things that every tourist sees. This time we decided to go where most tourists would be afraid to go - down some of the service alleys that back many of Asheville's larger streets.

We found that some of the most creative graffiti and interesting junk can be found in the alleys. This skeleton of an upright piano was just waiting for us to come by and snap its photo before somebody hauls it off to a landfill. Now in most larger cities, sneaking around the back alleys may not be the safest thing to do, but in Asheville, on  a Sunday afternoon, we felt like it was not much of a risk.
