A Healthy Diversion

Hospital Parking Deck, Knoxville, TN  -  2012

My Mother is out of the hospital now, but for a few weeks there were some trying times for me and my brother dealing with both family and medical issues. When I sometimes stepped outside for some fresh air, I would see some hospital visitors relieving the stress with a cigarette, or just pacing back and forth. I'm sure some dealt with their anxieties by taking a short walk to one of the nearby bars for an adult beverage.

Cigarettes and booze never seemed like a very helpful solution to stress to me. For myself, I relied first on the ever-present privilege of prayer. Knowing that God is always in control, even when things seem to be out of control, always brings me comfort. I also carried another stress-reliever in my pocket, my Canon A2000. Looking about for photo possibilities just outside the hospital door allowed me to focus my concentration on something different for a few minutes. It was like a power nap for my mind. Both prayer and my camera did their respective jobs, and now my Mother is safely home at my brother's house.

A power nap for the mind...I like that.
Photography is a stress reliever for me too.
In fact, maybe I will go out in the yard now and snap a few.
