Lake Junaluska View, Lake Junaluska, NC - 2011
I sometimes make reference to Lake Junaluska, and some of my readers may not know where or what it is. Lake Junaluska is a man-made lake, a community, and home to a Methodist conference and retreat facility. It's located between Clyde and Waynesville in Haywood County. It's a popular local place to hang out, fish, read, feed the ducks and geese, take a walk, bike ride, and take pictures. I've done outdoor portraits here many times because there are a variety of locations around the lake suitable for this purpose. It's a real asset to the Haywood County community and part of what makes life here so enjoyable!
The photo above is a view looking east across part of the lake. The bridge you see in the distance is a one-lane wooden bridge across the top of the dam that forms the lake. Walking paths and streets allow the entire perimeter of the lake to be traveled by foot or bicycle. One section of the walking path is closed to bicycles, so local streets must be used for a short distance. This route contains a hill that is an absolute killer for bicyclists who are a little out of shape like me. Climbing that hill on a bike was the one time I did not enjoy my visit to Lake Junaluska.

Gorgeous vivid blues John. It certainly does look like the perfect place for portraits.
