Fully Licensed

On my daily travels around western North Carolina, I occasionally pass through the town of Sylva. While making a delivery there one day, I discovered CT Auto Service, which is located one block off of one of Sylva's main thoroughfares. What caught my eye was that most of the front of the building is covered in license plates. I made a mental note to come back one day to explore this unique sight with my camera.

Yesterday I had the time to go check it out (along with a few other locations in Sylva that I've been wanting to photograph), and I discovered that all four sides of the building are "licensed". The business was closed for the Thanksgiving weekend, so I was free to explore the outside of the building without a lot of cars and people in my way.

It's a unique solution to the need for siding on one's building, and it certainly makes this business memorable. Every town has its share of garages and auto repair shops, but CT Auto Service found a way to make itself stand out from the crowd. (Click on photos to enalrge.)

My dad used to collect old license plates, but nothing like this! Good one...

Fascinating siding. I wonder how they got all of them?
