Asheville Murals

I can't sing, I can't paint, and I can't write how I feel, so all I have left is photography to express myself. - Anonymous

As one who never could draw or paint very well, I have always envied those who could. Two friends from my school days, brothers Doug and Don Mauras, amazed me with their ability. I used to watch with awe and jealousy as they made drawings magically appear on a piece of paper with apparent ease. When I tried to reproduce what they had drawn, it was always a poor, awkward, pitiful copy. My hand just would not produce what my mind desired.

Even more amazing to me are those who produce large scale artworks like these murals I found in downtown Asheville. How do they paint something so huge and maintain proportion and perspective? It's unimaginable to me how they do it. I'm glad somebody invented cameras, or I would be totally frustrated! (Click on photos to enlarge.)

Those murals are amazing. That's a very talented artist. I especially love your first shot with the different colors of brick and the car in the shot. I love the composition of that one!

What amazing murals. This is true artistry. I can draw a little bit but something on this scale would definitely be all out of proportion. I agree, thank goodness for cameras and the freedom that my little digital gives me.
On Thursday I will post that firescape picture in gritty black and white. It looks pretty good to me. Tomorrow is ABC Wednesday Letter F. Huh, I guess I could have posted it (fire escape) afterall but i have something else already planned.
Thanks for the B&W suggestion.

we have so many of these downtown in Boise I must get back out and capture them. They truely do add such a wonderful feel to the areas. I did not realize they were as common elsewhere. Awesome art

I love quality murals like this on buildings. There are a few in downtown Melbourne, Florida, that I have photographed.

Great shots.
